Seeking Information About Essequibo River & Bartica, Guyana

Does anyone have information in relation to the Essequibo river and Bartica?

I have read reports of the generally unsafe situation in Guyana and a recent massacre in Bartica in fact that the whole country has descended into narco machine-gun violence without any effective policing. (This from a person owning a house on the river at Bartica although he is living in the USA now and too concerned to return)

It seems a difficult situation with very different views being expressed, any more information would be great!!

Guyana and its people are lovely - drug runners are getting killed and over the many years I have lived in Bonsika, I have found that if you live a good clean life no one will bother you. But the people are poor - in the main - and if you go and "flash" your money and your wealth at them, it is not a good thing (you would not leave 100 US dollars on a table and walk away in the US!), so do not tempt people. Be kind, honest and loving.

I am a normal working class wife of a Guyanese white English. I do not go thinking I am richer or better than anyone else and feel safe and happy in Guyana.
