I have planned to sail with 60ft. classic gaff schooner from Malaysia to - Maldives - Seychelles - Madagascar - Cape Town - Uruguay.
I am starting from Malaysia/Terenggale in second week of February 2008. In the start of the trip is there piracy risk in close area of east coast of Malaysia, Singapore and Banda Aceh ?
How about the weather through this route, I expect to be approaching Cape Town in end of March /beginning of April, do you recommend to sail close to the coast of South Africa or with bigger distance to that to avoid the Agulhas current and the wind from SW/W/NW?
You should be ok in the North Indian Ocean but you could NOT have picked a worse time to sail through the South Indian Ocean as your timing coincides with the peak of the cyclone season. I suggest you get hold of a copy of my book "World Cruising Routes" as it describes in detail every one of routes you will be sailing.
