Countries: Chagos

We have just applied for a Visit Permit for Chagos and asked a few questions. Below BIOT admin's response for your info and inclusion on your website:

BIOT admin writes:

Thank you for your completed visit permit request for a 2 month visit. I will today set up a paypal account for the Mooring fee of £200.(2 x £100) Once this has cleared into our bank account I will issue your permit.

You ask a number of questions which I am happy to answer and for you to pass them onto noonsite.

You have indicated as you say that you will be arriving in mid February. I need you to be more specific on a date i.e. 18 February so that the permit can be issued for a specific length of time it also allows me to monitor the number of yachts we have in the area at any time.

The permit is valid from an actual date for a period of one or two months and ends on the actual date of expiry. If for any reason your arrival is delayed providing you keep me informed of your new estimated date of arrival I will at no charge reissue the permit to reflect the changes. If however you arrive in the area outside the dates on your permit and you have not kept me informed you will face a fine. Please see our rules and regulations.

If the visit is cancelled no matter what the circumstances the fee is non refundable (similar to a visa fee).

The permit is non transferable and is for the named vessel only. This is non negotiable.

You ask if there is any truth in the stories that we are about to limit the number of boats that can anchor in Peros Banhos or Saloman at any one time. At the moment no, though we do reserve the right to change this

Again if I can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me. BIOTadmin@fco.gov.uk
