Panama to Chile - Advice Sought

Hi everyone,

We're currently in Panama planning to sail to Chile reaching Puerto Montt by December 2007. That should be a good time to sail Patagonia until March 2008.

Galapagos Islands would be our first stop and from then we want to head for Ecuador (Salinas). We know that southbound passage to Chile is not ideal (we'll be sailing against wind and current) but think if we "hug" the coast we should be able to have some rest in anchorages and marinas (very few) of Peru and north Chile.

Another option would be sailing with the Humboldt current towards Easter island and then head for Puerto Montt but we feel that would be more streneous passage for a crew of two on 53 feet sailing boat.

We would be grateful for any thoughts or experiences of other sailors who were sailing in the same direction.

Many thanks
