Noonsite reported the yacht Colros missing in March, having left England in December 2006 captained by single-hander David Cartwright. The yacht never arrived at its destination, Madeira.
On May 30th the 27 foot sloop was spotted drifting in the mid-Atlantic by the crew of a yacht about 600 nautical miles SW of the Azores. Two crewmembers boarded the yacht, having contacted the authorities, and recovered the yacht's log and David's passport. It was not possible to tow Colros and she was left to drift.
David's last entry in the log was January 8th when he was about 180 miles west of Lisbon. Police investigations have not as yet revealed any reason as to his disappearance.
David’s family would be very grateful if word could be passed around in the sailing community that they would very much like to recover Colros and David's personal possesions, if possible.
David Cartwright was a boatbuilder in the UK for 25 years and bought and completely refurbished Colros himself in order to fulfil a lifelong dream to sail singlehandedly around the world. His cousin Barbara writes "We draw enormous comfort from the fact that David was happy living his dream when he left us."
September 2007 update: Colros is at this moment in the Azores.
