Cruising Costs in the Med

Topic: Cruising Information

My wife and I plan to cruise in the Med for a couple of years with a 40 ft. catamaran that is fully equiped (watermaker, electricity etc.) We would like to know what the absolute minimum amount of Euros would be that we would need per month to get by. The reason for asking this is that we would be depending on only our pension which is almost ten times less in value to the Euro. This is a our dream come true and we need to plan very carefully to prolong it as much as posible.

This is a very difficult question! If you plan to spend any time in marinas, you must budget at least 50 Euros per day for that, and in some places even more.

If you spend most of the time cruising in Croatia, Greece, etc where you anchor much of the time, the costs are less. If you take away docking costs, also costs of cruising permits, I guess you can live on about 30-50 euros a day (no meals out!). This would cover your food and fuel costs.

Tunisia and Turkey are about the cheapest places to leave the boat - you should budget around 2000 euros for a winter.
