Seeking Information From Other Yachts Visiting Chagos

Countries: Chagos

An email to the BIOT administration produced the following response:- Thank you for your e-mail. We are in the process of putting the relevant information onto the FCO website and it will be available shortly.

So I guess that the regulations, some of which we object to very strongly, are still in a state of flux.

We would like to hear from any yacht intending to visit the Chagos Archipelago from the east this season. We would like to get some idea of the number of yachts traveling from Asia to Africa or the Med VIA Chagos, or who would if Chagos permits and regulations were more reasonable.

The information we would like to gather about possible visitors is as follows:

  • Yacht name, length and number of people on board.

  • Port of departure and next port of call

  • Optimum /Preferred length of stay in Chagos area (Ignoring regulations and fees), approx date of arrival (Month).

  • If Diving were permitted 1) Level of qualification and agency, 2) Do you carry all gear including compressor?

This will help give me some basis for trying to persuade the BIOT administration to change things like the No Diving and poor anchoring sites during easterly trades regulations.
