Topic: Routing
Countries: Argentina, South Africa

On the occasion of the bicentenary of Giuseppe Garibaldi's birth, I'm planning a trhee year world cicumnavigation onboard of my multihull a Nautitech 475 ( you can visit the site www.frasimada.net, italian only)

After South Africa I need to join Mar de la Plata Argentina where Garibaldi sail and fight. In World Cruising Routes I find a route South Africa-Brazil and the suggestion to go NW for about 1200 mg and after go West.

The start from S.Africa may be in December-January, what are your suggestions:

  • land in south Brazil and after sail to Uruguay or sail to S. Brazil and at a certain distance to the coast take the track ?

Many thanks in advance, Massimo Marchi

You can easily sail directly from Cape Town to Argentina, although you may have the current against you. What you must not do is go too far south and lose the SE winds. So, on leaving Cape Town, sail NW until you find steady SE winds, then turn west and try staying with them. It may help to get some help with up to date weather information.
