Noonsite recently contacted the Administration office of the British Indian Ocean Territory to confirm the new fees and regulations set to apply to yachts visiting the Chagos archipelago that were due to come into force on 1 January 2007. We received the following reply:

In recognition of the difficulties facing yachts people already visiting/planning to visit BIOT over the winter months, the new procedures for obtaining permits in advance and the increase in mooring fees will not come into force until 01 April 2007.

Note that if anyone pays for 3 months mooring up to and including March 2007 the increase will not take effect until the end of those 3 months, ie in March 2007 if you pay the BIOT Customs Official USD100 for 3 months mooring, you will not be required to pay the increased fee until June 2007 when your 3 months are finished.

If you arrive in March AFTER the BIOT monthly inspection the new fee WILL apply from April payable to the BIOT Administration.
