This November, the Malaysian island of Langkawi will be abuzz with nautical activity as three major marine events converge on the idyllic island. On Friday 24th November, the inaugural Langkawi International Boat Exhibition – LIBEX will open its doors at Telaga Harbour, Pantai Kok, showcasing the products and services of some of South East Asia’s leading marine companies.
LIBEX will feature indoor pavilions and landed displays, staged on the large site adjacent to the Mediterranean boardwalk of Telaga Harbour Park with its range of restaurants, bars, shops and popular entertainment spots. The on-water display component will feature in the region of 20-25 boats directly in front of the main exhibitor pavilions.
Alastair Campbell, Executive Director of SailAsia Sdn Bhd, the organisers of LIBEX and of the Malaysian leg of the Rally, said, “Langkawi is going to be a hive of marine activity this November. LIBEX will provide an important trade platform for the local marine industry to showcase its products and services and will enable visitors to learn more about the marine leisure potential of this duty-free island. Telaga Harbour will be the focal point of this boat fest, with exhibitor pavilions, landed displays and an extensive on-water display. We are looking forward to a very successful event.”
Throughout LIBEX, which runs from November 24th to 27th, there will also be a series of demos, workshops and other activities for visitors to sample, including sail tryouts, competitions, fashion shows and other attractions including live band performances that are likely to keep the party atmosphere going strong. Former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir will be the Guest of Honour at the Gala Dinner on Sunday 26th November.
All this just as the celebrations marking the Grand Finale of epic Darwin-Bali-Langkawi Rally are getting into full swing with participants from the 70 or so Rally boats that will be berthing in and around the Harbour. At the same time, some 50 yachts in a variety of classes will be arriving in Langkawi for the concluding stages of this year’s Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta after three challenging overnight passage races from Port Klang.
