USA, Los Angeles to Hawaii

Hi,
My husband has your Cruising Routes book, but he is on another continent boat shopping. He tells me your book recommends the best sailing from Los Angeles to Hawaii in Oct/November, but several people in the Latitudes newsletter say July is best. We probably should have bought 2 copies so I could see for myself, but could you clarify your point of view please. From Hawaii, eventually headed to Australia.

You are right, the winds in July on the route from California to Hawaii are better BUT this is also the hurricane season! In my book I do not recommend ocean passages during the accepted tropical storm season, which, in the eastern North Pacific, is from June to the end of October. Going earlier, like so many people do, is taking a calculated risk.
