Great Cruising in Turkey

The best of the Med is behind us!

When we left Israel (one of the best destinations on the entire globe) we thought that the best of the Med was to the west… However, we headed North for Turkey and found one of the greatest cruising destinations in the world, and certainly the best in the Med. We cruised the Turkish waters for a year, keeping our boat in D-Marine in the town of Turgutreis for the entire winter safely, cheaply, and with no concern at all. Do not be confused as to marinas in Turkey. There are good ones and not so good ones. We tried them all and found, for a variety of reasons, that the absolute best marina in Turkey and one of the best we have ever run across in our circumnavigation is D-Marine in Turgutreis. It is around the corner from Bodrum (a crowded place to winter), and a day’s sail from Marmaris, the marina that most people think is terrific, and I still have yet to figure out why (no town at close hand and right next to a major boat works yard that is noisy and dirty). At D-Marine, you have a beautiful small town at your walking fingertips and every yacht repair expert that you could desire. D-Marine is a marina that when you arrive, has a dinghy with 3 boat boys awaiting to hand off the laid line, another boy waiting on the dock, and friendly staff that speaks any language, and management that only wants your happiness! 24 hours a day! The bathrooms are cleaned 5 times a day and the showers are much like a deluxe hotel!

Speaking of Yacht engineers, some of the best we have experienced are at YachtWorks, a company based at D-Marine. We had some MAJOR work done there and were completely satisfied with their expertise, advice, and incredibly inexpensive prices. John and Yosef are there to make you happy and they are not satisfied until the job is done properly!

I can’t say enough good things about D-Marine and yacht Works!

Happy Cruising!
