Unlimited Visa Extensions May No Longer Be Allowed In Thailand

The Phuket Gazette has reported that as of October 1st 2006 new regulations in Thailand state that extensions to the normal one month visa on arrival granted by immigration will be limited to 3 entries, after which the applicant must stay out of Thailand for 90 days before coming back into the country. A member of the Thai Marine Boating Association contacted the Governor's office as well as Immigration to voice their concern. Phuket Immigration has said that yachtsmen will still be allowed to do monthly visa runs. Since they have a yacht in Phuket they have a valid reason to receive a visa on application. The new ruling is targeted at people who are using the visa on arrival system to stay and work in Thailand.
