Sailors from across the world have greeted the launch of the World ARC, a new circumnavigation rally being run by UK-based World Cruising Club, with tremendous enthusiasm. In just one month since the entry list was opened, the organisers have received 13 confirmed entries from 6 countries; Belgium, Norway, Great Britain, Germany, Ireland and the USA. With over 600 serious enquiries from Europe, North and South America, South Africa and Australia to date, entries are being received continually, and look certain to reach the upper limit of 45 yachts.

The first official entry, received with 24 hours of opening the list, was Robert Moore from Halifax, UK with his Oyster 56 - Into the Blue, closely followed by Hugh & Val Pilsworth from Killiney, Ireland with their Jeanneau 49DS - Blue Flyer. The full entry list is available on the World ARC website at www.worldcruising.com/worldarc/ in English, German, French and Spanish languages.

Detailed planning is currently taking place, ready for the start from St.Lucia in January 2008. Author and cruising "guru" Jimmy Cornell is helping with fine-tuning the route and preparations with World Cruising Club. Having previously sailed to all the countries included on the World ARC route, Jimmy is delighted that the route will take in what he describes as "some of the best cruising destinations in the world" including remote islands and anchorages in the South Pacific, Indian and Atlantic Oceans.

WCC has a proven track record having already successfully organised five round-the-world events, including the first-ever round-the-world cruising rally - Europa'92, and having taken over 3000 yachts across the Atlantic with the annual Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC), now in its 21st year.

World ARC starts in the Caribbean in January 2008 to allow cruisers already in the region to join, or to sail across with the ARC, or cruise down from the US East Coast.

Full details of the route and itinerary are now confirmed and available to view on the World ARC website at: www.worldcruising.com/worldarc/
