The inaugural 2006 Queensland Government South Pacific
Boomerang Yacht Races will see a competitive fleet of 23 yachts take the Melbourne to Vanuatu leg leaving Melbourne at 12.00 on July 2nd. The passage
race starting the series is from Royal Brighton Yacht Club on the 1st of
July.
They will then ride the south westerlies for the 1850 nautical mile trip to
the finish line in Port Vila, Vanuatu. Only to take to the water again on the 1st of August for the 1150 nautical mile, perfect reach into Mackay.
The second major leg of the boomerang brings the boats back from Port Vila
into the magnificent marina at Mackay with enough time to refuel boats and
bodies before heading off to the fun of the Airlie beach and Hamilton island
regattas.
The
Queensland Government is supporting the event through the departments of
Sport and Recreation Queensland and Tourism, Fair Trading and Wine Industry
Development.
