Hi my name is Bart de Zwart, we - my wife and 7 yr old daughter are sailing around the world right now. We just crossed from Panama to the Galapagos. We had all kind of winds mostly from the front, thunderstorms and calm days. After 9 days we arrived in the Galapagos.
After reading the stories about "strange" encounters during this crossing I would like to add something to the discussion. We also met 2 small 15ft fishing boat on 2 different occasions. And although they were far out at sea, 200 miles out of the Galapagos 400 miles out of Ecuador, they were just fisherman asking sailing boats for water or juice. They showed up just out of the
blue, came alongside and were very friendly asking if you have anything to spare for them. After giving them some drinks and food they were very grateful and disappeared like they came into the blue.
I think we should not get too frantic about those encounters. Treat them nice and give them something. After all they are just brave fisherman being that far out with tiny open boats doing their work.
Thank you and ALOHA,
Bart
