There have been several reports recently of containers being lost overboard from commercial ships in the Bay of Biscay, the most recent incident with 50 being lost from a containership from the Maersk Line. An estimate has been made of around 2,500 containers being lost of at least 15 million transported each year around the world, a small but still significant amount. This is clearly an issue for sailors and there is some debate as to whether lost containers will float or sink.
