What Is New At Cruising Club Of America Website

Topic: Cruising Information

Dear Noonsite,

We recently posted an update (Version 5.01) to the paper "Cruising European Waters" at the Cruising Club of America's website www.cruisingclub.org

In addition to minor corrections, this update corrects the Harbor Control Lights illustration, has an expansion of the section on Croatia, an update on the cost of Diesel fuel in the eastern Mediterranean and a new section on using the internet for phone calls (Voice Over IP).

Also at this website are several other free papers of interest to the cruising sailor. Some of them require Adobe's Acrobat Reader to download which is available under the sidebar "Offshore Communications and Electronics".

The papers in this sidebar deal mainly with single sideband radios. This includes the "Offshore Communications Memorandum" which is focused on using SSB, its Appendix which has SSB simplex frequencies, nets, weather fax frequencies & schedules, etc. There are also simplified operating manuals for the Icom M-700PRO, M-710 and M-710RT SSBs along with Emergency Cards for these radios, a paper on "SSB Transmissions, Connections and Grounds" and a paper on verifying GPS navigation programs (range & bearing).

Although mostly by way-of-mouth, we are very pleased with the interest shown in these papers. In the case of "Cruising European Waters", there have been over 19,000 downloads since it was first posted a year ago.

By their very nature, these papers have to be updated periodically to keep up with technical developments and changing circumstances. Interested cruisers should check occasionally to determine if they have the latest version.

Sincerely,

Walter R. Paul, Chair

Offshore Communications and Electronics, CCA
