We are purchasing a 14.5m sailing vessel in the Philippines and are not
certain of the most direct and safe route to take home to Sydney. Across
the top of New Guinea or down through Indonesia. Because of time
constraints we have to set off 12th June 2005.Your advice would be greatly
appreciated Just love Noonsite would have to be one of the best.
Not an easy one!
The route via Indonesia is not a good idea as you will have to beat against
wind and current all the way to Torres Strait, and then on to Sydney.
The other alternative is... less bad, but not ideal: head SE for PNG, then
try to make some easting maybe by going via Vanuatu, then possibly via New
Caledonia...and home. It will be a lot of beating, especially south of PNG,
but still easier than option 1.
Bon voyage!
