Advance Reporting Prior To Arrival

Countries: Japan

My name is Mike Quinn and I live on Ishigaki island southern Japan.

I have been asked by the Japan Coast Guard station here in Ishigaki to try and pass on information concerning the reporting of Ship's Security Information for yachts prior to arrival in Japan. The form is available on the internet at http://www.kaiho.mlit.go.jp/01kanku/solas/english.pdf

This form can be downloaded and faxed to the JCG Ishigaki at 81-980-83-0135. If a fax machine is unavailable an email listing the ship's name, tonnage, port of registry, flag, owner's name, ETA, and ports to be visited in Japan, can be sent to muneyasu-arata@kaiho.milt.go.jp or to my email address hanalee@crux.ocn.ne.jp and I will pass it on.

Although only a volunteer I have been dubbed the official foreign vessel point of contact it seems. I don't mind helping out when I can so feel free to pass my email address on to anyone with questions regarding entry into Japan through Ishigaki. I'd really appreciate any help getting this information out as it might be a source of misunderstanding and aggrivation for people headed this way in the near future. The fine for entering the port without prior 24 hour notice is $5000 US.

Thanks again, Mike Quinn, s/v Hanalee
