Maldives Facilities After Tsunami - Detailed Report

Noonsite received the following detailed report from Abdullah Jaleel of the AMSCO agency in Malé.

Male' Commercial Harbour

This harbour did experience the effect of the upsurge of the sea, but no vessels were damaged, only some heavy damage to cargo, and equipment on the harbour jetty.

Hulhumale' Lagoon

Hulhumale is a reclaimed island north of the airport, where most yachts were anchored. The tsunami did wash right over the island, with some damage. However, none of the yachts anchored there had even slight damage.

Male'

There has been no damage to the infrastructure in the capital Malé. However, the whole island was covered with sea water of 3 feet depth, with some resulting damage to motor vehicles, and household goods. There was however no interruption of communications, electricity or water. No shortage of food, water, fuel.

Uligamu

The island and port was untouched although some of the atoll's other islands were badly damaged.

Port of Gan - Addu Atoll

This port is located in south Maldives and felt no tsunami effect. No shortage of food, water, fuel on this atoll.
