The latest news is that the Maritime Authorities of Ushuaia have decided for the 2004-2005 season not to enforce the new rule which requires two Argentine witnesses to declare any crew joining the boat to be friends and not passengers.

Due to the fact that more and more charter yachts every year come to Ushuaia and work without permission, the Ushuaia Maritime Authorities are trying to stop this illegal activity by introducing new regulations. In 2004 they announced that each time a yacht changes or takes on new crew that are not relatives of the captain, the Authority requires two Argentine witnesses to declare the crews are not passengers but friends. This rule is enforced also for private yachts.

Although this rule will not be applied for this season, the authorities are considering bringing in new regulations for charter boats for next season (2005 - 2006).
