Recently three vessels have been broken into while left unattended at the Queen Salote Wharf, Nuku'alofa. Between June 1 thru July 1 2004, Yachts Sala, the Owenga, and m/v SSSuri had radio equipment and personal belongings removed from the vessels. The perpetrators left the vessels in a complete mess, ruining cushions, and destroying personal property.
In a related incident, one of the crew of the Yacht Sala had her wallet stolen from the Billfish bar nearby. In addition, other recent complaints of "pick-pockets" were reported from the Billfish bar. Jackets and more wallets had reportedly been stolen, however only one incident was reported to the police. Keep only small cash and a close watch at all times.
The police have added an extra patrol along the wharf.
