Jim Wiese, Vice-Commodore of the Balboa Yacht Club, has sent the following update on planned and present facilities in Panama (October 2004):

The Balboa Yacht Club has finally negotiated its concession with the government of Panama and will begin construction of the new club facility on the "old Slab" (the site that was burned down years ago). The facility will have all of what you would expect from a modern marina, with the exception of slips. For all of you that know the "BYC" we offer only moorings.

UPDATE: Balboa Yacht Club still has not receIved the permits to begin construction of the new Yacht Club facility...in the meantime, the club has built "another "temporary bar and office" on the site in order to offer guests a place to have a drink and hang out...But!..The new club building will happen..the question is when?

Colon: a "top end" full service marina is being constructed at the Colon 2000 cruise ship port. The existing port already has a modern grocery store (Super 99) nice resturants, bars, duty free shops, easy access to transportaion,...(all of this is already in place...)

UPDATE: The marina is no longer going to be built.

Northern Panama... Finally we will have an "Outpost" in the North Western part of Panama at Cayletta Cayman, on the south end of Cebaco Island (near Coiba). A 110' mother ship "Cebaco Bay" will be moored in the bay offering fuel and services to all. The bay has been concessioned to the Cebaco Bay sports fishing club and a minor charge will be required to anchor or moor there. The club has purchased 60 hectares of the island ..( the entire beach and adjacent lands) and will develop the lodge over a period of three years.

UPDATE: The mothership vessel "Cebaco Bay" will be at Cebaco Island beginning the 15th of November 04 and staying there until the 15th of April 04...here you can get a mooring, (limited) fuel, fresh water, a cold beer or an icy rum... and just hang out... Passing sportfishing boats are the targeted clients, however we welcome everyone here... stop by and enjoy the beautiful Cebaco Bay Panama...and bring your friends.
