Countries: Gibraltar, United Kingdom

The year 2004 marks the 300th Anniversary of Gibraltar’s close ties with Great Britain. On 4th August 1704, an Anglo-Dutch fleet under the command of Admiral George Rooke took over Gibraltar from the Spanish. The Rock has been under British rule ever since.

Throughout the year Gibraltar will commemorate and celebrate by a series of events the 300 years of Gibraltar’s British history, the close links between Britain and Gibraltar that are the fruit of those 300 years, and the identity and culture of the people of Gibraltar that have evolved during that time. Events include exhibitions, concerts and military parades.
