Visiting yachties at a string of organised sailing events will be showcasing to the rest of the world that Bali and other favourite SE Asian tourist destinations are - Open for Business and ready to go! In the wake of local authorities taking positive steps to combat terrorism and quickly taking
preventative measures to overcome the recent SARS threat the local service industry and tourism sectors have been left in disarray plus have put an almighty dent in the tourism reliant economies.
The sport of luxury yachting is coming to the rescue and taking the lead set by the local authorities in showing that it is safe to travel through the region and attending a diverse series of sailing events the length and breadth of SE Asia over the next year.
First up, 25 yachts are starting the Darwin - Kupang Rally on the 26th July, then 23 yachts including 2 time winner John Wardill's Australian Maid will head off on part of the "Bali Recovery" program which is a race from Darwin to Bali departing on the 2nd August. The plan is that the yachts that have gone to Kupang will head to Bali after the presentation in Kupang is over, in
order to participate in a combined finish celebrations in Bali. Daily updates will be available after 5pm ACST every day on the web site until they all finish. Please check www.darwinbalirace.com for all
the latest news on these events.
