The spacious new 233 berth Opua Marina (www.opuamarina.co.nz ) has reserved the northern half of the float breakwater for quarantine (it is clearly marked and isolated by a set of gates from the southern half) for yachts
arriving from overseas and customs and agriculture officers from Whangarei
are based here during the months that cruisers arrive. A large number of
marine repair and trade shops have opened adjacent to the marina with
sailmakers, riggers, canvas, welders, mechanics, engineers, shipyards and dry
storage facilities available. Marina visitors also enjoy spacious, clean
showers and excellent laundry facilities adjacent to the docks. Opua Cruising Club always hosts a Thanksgiving Day dinner for as many as 200 cruisers from
many countries in late November, plus several barbecues every week.
