Notes:
General no other EU Country have requirements listed above only Greece.
(1)Must have valid date on insurance or boat is detained. This requirement is not in writing.
(2) Yachts must transit Greek waters in 90 days or be subject to “Cruising Tax” This requirement is not in writing.
(3)All Non-EU yachts in Greece over ninety days, regardless whether “in or out of the water” or “under bond”, are imposed a “cruising tax”. This tax is calculated monthly at €14.67 plus 19% VAT per meter every three months. The cost for a 12 meter yacht is (12m x14.67 x 3months = €528.12 x Vat19% = €828.44 or $1,076.00 US Dollars). The calculations or assessment of the tax is not in writing.
(4) The tax is collected when the Yacht departs Greek waters or at intermediate stops as determined by officials. There is no written document explaining this tax procedure.
(5) Harbour dues are levied in Greek harbours where there are port police. The following example provides a specific example of the discriminatory practices against non-EU flagged boats. The Port of Nidri, Lefkas Island, 18 May 2006 provided a written formula for the fees charged yachts in their harbour.
Charter boats (11 meters x 58.7 x 1 day = E6.45)= 150 % lower than the normal fee Greek and EU boats (11 meters x 146.75 x 1 day = E16.14)= This is normal fee
Non-EU boats (11 meters x 293.47 x 1 day = E32.28)= 100% over normal fee
Additionally, these practices are noted in the Greek Waters Pilot – IMRAY series edited by Rod Heikell. 8th Edition, page 15.
