Research Into Travel Benefits For Cruising Children
I am currently working on a PhD at the University of Montana that involves an educational plan for middle school children based upon travel experiences. My research involves interviewing youngsters (preferably between the ages of 11-15, although not absolute) who are cruising. For more details click on the Noonsite report link

Hi my name is Molly. My family and I are planning to go cruising in the Caribbean this year and I would like to learn what it is like cruising from some kids my age. I am 11 and live in Canada. Email: cverra@sympatico.ca
Hello My name is Isabel but people just call me Izzy. I live in Belleville. My family is going sailing for a long long time so I would like to get to know some more sailing or power boating kids. I am 9 years old. My favorite place to sail to is Main Duck Island but there is not many ducks there. It is in Lake Ontario. It is not much fun to go there but when you get there you will know the trip was worth it. We went to the Thousand Islands and Main duck island and sandy cove this past summer. At Sandy Cove I got a collection of fisherman stuff I found on the island. I found so much stuff it could barely fit in my tackle box. A little boy whe went there found a fishing rod and I wish I found it even though it wouldn't work. What is it like living on a boat for so long? My longest time on a sailboat was two weeks. It felt like so long but it wasn't really in the long time we were sailing we had so much fun. My mom was not so happy because we did not catch very many fish and my mom was looking forward to eating fish. Well I guess this is it. I've nearly told you everything I did on my sailboat so I hope you write me.
ps I hope you write me bye........Izzy

Advice On Sailing With Medical Issues posted October 2005 msxl2@sailmail.com Hi all, We are on our way south and west with two kids 8 and 11. We
are in Portugal at the moment. The youngest child has a
condition known as central congenital hypoventilation
syndrome (CCHS). Essentially for him this means that he has
a ventilator to support him at night as his breathing slows
down to the point where he would stop breathing. We have had
a great time working things out for him and it is working
well at the moment. We are on the verge of going further
afield and away from europe which takes us away from
whatever support services we had relatively close by. We
would be very glad to hear from anyone who is dealing with
medical issues whilst cruising. We can share our experiences
which may be valuable to both. Cheers S and S.

We read a lot about cruising and trying to get all the info we can handle, will do navigation course etc. Are there any teenagers that can send their stories, pics etc. How about education, like do you do correspondence or how does that work. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you and safe and happy cruising you lucky, lucky people.

Babies and cruising posted July 2004 hstreiner@yahoo.com We are hoping there are some people out there who may be able to provide some advice. We are a couple in our 30's, hoping to have children and go cruising with them. Can anyone provide any feedback on cruising with young (baby aged) children. How did they fare in passages? Foreign countries? Meeting other children? Doctors or medical issues? Any feedback or advice would be most appreciated. We live on our 42 foot sailboat in Vancouver, Canada and will be out cruising soon! Thanks, Heather & Tim.

Canada To South Pacific posted Nov 2004 rowlings@incentre.net We are a family of 4 (kids are Damon age 12 and Willow age 9) we currently live in Jasper National Park, but will be purchasing a sail boat very soon and leaving the beauty of the Canadian Rocky Mountains for the South Pacific. We are very excited about sailing the world with our children and although the kids have a few issues with leaving their friends (and social life) behind they are also very excited. We plan to homeschool the kids - there are a lot of great options in Alberta for doing this. We have spent time back country hiking, skiing, and camping with the kids and know how positively the parent/child relationship can be in this type of situation. We would love to hear from other families about their experiences (good & bad)sailing with their children. Looking forward to cruising - Kim
