  Sola : Profile

Clearance

The small settlement of Sola, on Vanua Lava island in the Banks group of Vanuatu, is now an official port of entry into and out of Vanuatu. On arrival anchor well off the small wharf in the SE corner of the bay as there is no anchoring depth close to the wharf. The dinghy can be left on the beach north of the wharf. It is just a short walk to a building on the left side of the road leading into the village which houses both police and customs. Immigration and customs formalities are completed here. Departing boats will have to pay the cruising fee of 7000 vatu if they have spent less than one month in Vanuatu. Those who have spent more need to pay an additional 100 vatu per day. There is a bank in Sola, but it will only change foreign banknotes, no travelers cheques or credit cards, so it may be better to arrive with some vatu.

The anchorage can get quite rolly in SE winds, so one should plan on spending only the minimum time here.

There are several small stores as well as a local market. Basic supplies are available as well as bread.
