Exmouth : Profile

Location

The River Exe forms an attractive stop on the western side of Lyme Bay. Large parts of the estury are a nature reserve and a haven for birdlife.

Position 50°36.9'N, 03°25.4'W.

Docking

Beware of the strong ebb tide in the entrance channel, which, in a brisk wind from the south or SW can kick up a nasty chop.

Rive Exe - due to severe silting, in May 2008 an alternative buoyed channel was marked. Call Channel 12 for latest situation as depths, drying heights and contours need to be checked. (August 2008)

There are many places to pick up a visitors' mooring in the river. The area is so full of moorings that anchoring is no longer practical.

In addition, the small commercial dock at Exmouth has now been converted into a marina and there are pontoon berths in Turf Basin.

Night entry is not advised.
