St. John has mostly recovered from Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Most businesses recovered excepting Caneel Bay resort; the owners received insurance money but have been holding out for a longer contract from the National Park Service before rebuilding. Wrecked boats, cars, and debris were removed in 2018 and early 2019. A few wrecked and derelict boats remain, but the Coral Bay Community Foundation has applied for grants to remove the remainder. There is a grant in progress to remove derelict cars. The landscape has returned to tropical greenery. The last few business that were recovering have re-opened. St. John is open for business!
