Saturday 10 October 08:00-11:00

O'Callaghan Hotel, 174 West Street, Annapolis

World Cruising Club's popular Ocean Sailing Forum will take place on October 10, the Saturday of the Annapolis Boat Show. This two hour panel discussion is a must for anyone considering making a long offshore passage; crossing the Gulf Stream and heading south, tackling the Atlantic or even more adventurous bluewater cruising.

Following a continental breakfast and chance to mingle with the panelists, Andy Schell, professional ocean sailor, SAIL Magazine contributing editor and manager of World Cruising Club's USA rallies, will moderate the discussion with a panel of experienced cruisers and marine professionals. They will cover topics like preparing your boat, selecting equipment, sails and sail handling, life onboard, crew management, route and weather.

Wide experince among the panelists

This year's panellists will include circumnavigators and multihull converts Rick & Julie Palm who last fall delivered their new Outremer 51 catamaran in the ARC+ Rally.

Alongside Rick & Julie will be Paul & Sheryl Shard of the popular TV series Distant Shores, who recently sailed their Southerly 49 eastabout across the Atlantic, stopping in the Azores to film new episodes of their show.

Rounding out the panel are up-and-coming cruisers Lee & Rachel Cumberland, in the early stages of a planned circumnavigation on their Tayan 37. Lee & Rachel, twenty-something newlyweds, recently quit their jobs, sold their house and have spent the summer refitting "Satori" to follow their dreams.

Also available for advice will be representatives from World Cruising Club's supporters, including Pantaenius Insurance, Forbes Horton Yacht Sales, Southbound Rigging at Port Annapolis & Charlie Doane, Cruising Editor of SAIL. The objective is to share their knowledge and experience in a friendly and informative way. Our moderator will keep the discussion moving and audience members are encouraged to participate and to ask questions.

"A unique event putting you one-on-one with a range of ocean cruising leaders. Professional advice, not from marketeers, but from those who sail for a living, covering the gamut from sailing purists to the latest technologies.!"

- Mark Johnson, 2014.

It only costs $20 per person to benefit from all of this advice, and the price includes a ticket for the Annapolis Boat Show. After the Forum, participants can visit the boat show and look at the equipment and boats mentioned during the discussion.

Additionally, the panel discussion will be recorded and released as an episode of '59º North,' Andy Schell's popular sailing podcast, available free on iTunes or at 59northpodcast.com.
