Norfolk, as well as being an old seaport, is one of the East Coast’s busiest international commercial ports. Its neighbouring city of Portsmouth houses one of the US Navy’s major shipyards. The city also forms a key waystation on the Intracoastal Waterway.
There are a huge number of mooring options in and around Norfolk, Portsmouth, Newport News and Hampton, as well as in the rivers feeding into this southern end of Chesapeake Bay.

This marina (formally Cook's Landing Marina)is located sixteen miles from Willamsburg, Virginia. A full service marina, 250 slips, two travel lifts, clubhouse, marine store, engine and osmosis repairs, fuel dock, two swimming pools, toilets and showers. With the change of ownership in 2004, the marina is in the process of being renovated.
