Alanya : Profile
Alanya is a seaside resort located on the eastern side of the Gulf of Antalya. It is 120 kilometres from the city of Antalya. It is an attractive, all year, town with a castle and many historical sites in the vicinity.
The old village has almost remained untouched by the later development now surrounding it.
The new marina that opened here at the end of 2009 facilitates cruising eastwards to Cyprus, Syria, Lebanon & Israel.
Customs patrol the harbour. Immigration office is on the waterfront and other authority offices are in the town.
The old breakwater has been extended NE and a new breakwater built out from the beach towards the SE, forming a protected anchorage. Latest reports say this area is being dredged.
It is also possible to anchor just to the NE of the harbour.
The new marina has been built about 3NM NW of the town. Whilst the shelter is adequate inside the breakwaters, the marina suffers quite substantially from reflected swell when the wind is from a S/SW direction (normally during the winter months). Cruisers have reported both in 2009/10 and 2010/11 that winter storms can be a problem here and care should be taken to tie your boat up carefully to avoid surge damage. Several advise not to leave your boat unattended in the water here during the winter.
Latest reports from the marina state that there is a state office approved plan to deflect the swell at the marina entrance. Four pieces of 30 meters long, 6 meters wide, 3 meters depth floating wave/surge reducers will be placed at the entrance of the marina - one is already fixed and noonsite has been told that the remaining two will be completed by the end of June 2011.
