Countries: Thailand

Koh Chang near the Thai/Cambodian border, on the eastern side of the Gulf of Thailand, has a new marina which has just opened. It is at the northwest of the island in Ao Khlong Son and is part of the Siam Royal View resort complex and has been long awaited in terms of completion.

We took our boat there in late November 2012 and were officially the first visiting yacht.

The approach channel is very shallow so it is a high tide entry, we draw 1.75m and entered on not quite high tide and touched a couple of times.  Once in the marina there is depth of at least 4m, which after tidal change leaves adequate clearance.

The marina is still in the development phase and has more building to go but can accommodate about 8 boats, but is aiming for around 50 once completed.  Marina fees include wifi, pool use with pay as you go for water and power.  There are a couple of restaurants within the complex plus more in the local village.

Nearby are facilities including a laundry service, scooter hire and a basic hardware store.  Over the hill (big hill) is White Sands beach area which is the main tourist area, which you can get to by taxi truck.
