Balearics 2015: Costa Dorada to Ibiza, Espalmador and Formentera

Below are the marina charges for our cruise over 2 months to Ibiza from mainland Spain and back. We had intended to visit Mallorca but enjoyed Ibiza so much we stayed. Ibiza and the off-lying islands are scenically spectacular and a lovely cruising ground. The Ibiza stereotype does it a disservice, in our opinion.

Espalmador

Sant Carles Marina to Ibiza – April to June 2015.

Sv ONAWAY – 12m berthing costs.

It is true that cruising this area during the summer can be very expensive indeed if marinas are used, but we found that at this time of year it was possible to use both anchorages and marinas as costs were reasonable.

The weather was excellent by UK standards, blue skies and mid-twenties. Strong winds in the Golf du Lion brought swell, at times, to Ibiza and further east in Minorca, boisterous conditions. Sea area forecasts seemed much more reliable at this time of year, suspect that is the absence of very hot conditions.

All of the locations visited were Med style berthing and marineros were on hand to assist.

Heading south from San Carles de la Rapita (Mainland Spain), we left on 20th April 2015.

APRIL

Oropesa – Club Nautico

17E/night inc. water, electricity & WIFI.

Call on arrival some English spoken.

Castellon – Club Nautico

17.44E/night inc. water, electricity & WIFI.

Call on arrival some English spoken.

Valencia – Marina Real Juan Carlos

20.57E/night inc water, electricity & WIFI.

Arrivals pontoon, English spoken.

MAY

Denia – Marina de Denia

24.50E/night inc. WIFI but not water or electricity.

Call on arrival, good English spoken.

Ibiza – San Antonio

Club Nautico – Es Nautic

24.50E (with CA discount 20%) / 29E/night inc. water, electricity & WIFI.

Call on arrival, good English spoken. Excellent location, free Cava, voucher for free night on next stay.

There is no arrivals area here and you must call to access the marina (even if you have booked on the website). Be prepared to wait a while as they organise a berth for you.

Both the marinas suffer from movement off traffic in the bay.

San Antonio – Ports IB

23.50E/night (May) 46.14E/night (June) inc. water, electricity & WIFI.

A small marina set behind Es Nautic and perfectly good pontoons. Call them on arrival as there is no waiting pontoon. Plenty of availability during May & June. A little noisier than Es Nautic I suspect and more wash from passing traffic.

Ibiza – Ibiza Town

We did not visit any of these marinas but made some inquiries for future reference. I am certain that any service required would be available here including good chandlers at Marina Botafoch. We loved the town and it is well worth a visit, probably by bus. The whole harbour is very, very busy indeed.

Ibiza Town – Marina Botafoch

51E/ night exc. water & electricity. No availability.

Advice was as follows: call on the day to see what space they have, unlikely you can stay more than 1 night. We felt this was probably the best location for a stay in Ibiza Town. Water ferry to town or a good walk. Restaurants on site but looking a little “shabby” in some places, I thought. Well away from the “hustle” on the main town quay.

Ibiza Town – Puerto Deportivo Marina Ibiza

120E/ night exc. water & electricity. Availability.

This is the most upmarket marina here. Full of superyachts and great views of the Citadel.

Ibiza Town – Club Nautico

53E/night (May) 113E/ night (June) exc. water & electricity. This marina is central to the town centre and sights but is horrendously busy with ferry’s coming and going from the islands.

Ibiza – Santa Eulalia

31.80E/night inc. WIFI, exc. water, electricity.

Call on arrival good English spoken. Arrivals quay.

Costs for Posidonia buoys – Ibiza

Espalmador

29.10E / night from 1st June.

Buoys in place during last week in May. We used them with no charge. Bookable, but no need this early in the season.  Lovely spot.

Calo de s’Oli

29.10E / night from 1st June.

Buoys in place last week in May. Bookable but no need this early. Closest to Puerto Sabina, Formentera but a little exposed. Better to anchor off beach to north of Port.

Formentera – Puerto Sabina

This is a very busy place indeed with ferry’s coming and going from Ibiza. A great deal of movement in the port. We will find time to visit and explore the island a little more. There are supermarkets and chandlers here.

Marina Formentera

51E May exc. water & electricity.

Closest to the action and in the busiest part of the port.

Formentera Mar

37E (May) 85E (June) exc. port taxes, water and electricity.

Much better location as more sheltered from the activity in the port.

Note. We did not berth here but visited by dinghy and made inquiries for future reference.
