  Valencia : Profile

Location

The port of Valencia has a long history. It is situated on the banks of the Turia river on the eastern coast of Mediterranean Spain and is the third largest city in the country.

The Barrio del Carmen in the old city centre is an attractive place to stroll around, with its many cafes and lively nightlife. In contrast, the modern city close to the port, with its strange and impressive architecture by the city's beloved architect Calatrava, gives visitors a totally different perspective on city life.

Position 39° 26.3' N, 0° 19.1'W.

Docking

The port has a large, well equipped yacht harbour, which has in recent years been substantially expanded to provide a great many super yacht berths. These berths are administered by the Yacht Club (RCNV). It is by the entrance to the river, south of the commercial docks.

North of the commercial complex, is the old port of Valencia which was extended to host the Americas Cup competition in 2007. This now houses a large marina.

The pity in Valencia is that all marina berths are located quite a distance from the city centre and ameneties. The yacht club, whilst a nice facility, is remote and requries taxi or hire-car transport to get anywhere (including supermarkets). The newer marina attached to the old port has little in the way of facilities and whilst connected to the city centre by buses and metro, requires a fair hike to get to the station/stops.
