Ibiza : Profile
The city of Ibiza is located on a hill on the south eastern side of the island and is surrounded by impressive fortifications. It offers a colourful ambience with its narrow lanes. Before June and after September, when the riotous night clubs are closed, this is a quiet place with a real Mediterranean feel.
Marinas
There are several marinas here; see entries below.
Anchoring
The area between the breakwater and Marina Botafoch is designated and marked as "No Anchoring". This rule is now being more rigourously enforced and boats are being fined if they ingnore this rule.
The only area anchoring is allowed is below the cathedral but this is uncomfortable at any time and untenable with any weather from the southern sector. Its beneath a cliff, so to access the town by dinghy, you will need to go around the western breakwater, into the inner harbour.
Summer 2009: Cruisers reported being removed from the anchorage on the East side of the harbour and were told that nobody was now allowed to use the anchorage on
the West side under the Catheral either.
Other Moorings
There are several bays around the island which have offical mooring buoys which are free for one or two days and which can be booked in advance. Es Oalmador and Salinas are two of them. A useful website is www.portsib.es
The other major harbour on the island, Puerto de San Antonio, is on the NW coast. This is a serious tourist destination.
