  Formentera : Profile

Location

This small island, with its small satellite island of Espalmador, lies just south of Ibiza. With the introduction of a ferry service, the amount of tourism here has increased in the last few years. However, it is still a quiet, peaceful place with beautiful white beaches.

Docking

At Puerto de la Sabina, west of harbour is good for short trip ashore but exposed for an overnight. Anchor in 3-4m, but care needed as it shallows quickly closer in. Sand patches between the rocky areas are clearly visible through the clear water.

Around this island, there are various restrictions regarding the use of the buoys and where to anchor.

The designated buoys are in place between 1 June and 30 September, and you need to book in advance by contacting the Department for the Environment (Conselleria de Medi Ambient) reservation centre on 902 422 425. Reservations can be made 2 to 20 days in advance, by phone or online. There is a restriction of two consecutive nights in a calendar week. No rafting up is allowed. The maximum length of boat allowed is indicated by the colour of the buoy.

In the restricted anchoring areas, the posidonia beds are being protected and it is only permitted to anchor to sandbars.
