The opening of the luxurious Raffles Marina, in Tuas, on the west side of the island, has made Singapore much more attractive to those who prefer to dock in a marina. Those on a limited budget usually anchor as close to the Changi Sailing Club as they can, as the Club rarely has any spare moorings. The one great disadvantage of Raffles Marina is that it is far from downtown Singapore. Changi is more popular as it has a village atmosphere with a fresh produce market, good shopping and other facilities within walking distance.
Several new marinas have opened, or are about to open, in the proximity of Singapore:-
Sebana Cove is located on the banks of the Sebana river on the south coast of Malaysia.
Nongsa Point Marina is located on the northern shore of Batam Island, in Indonesia. To visit Nongsa Pont Marina yachts require a "green book". For Singapore-based boats the green book replaces the cumbersome sailing permit but the formalities for getting the book are just as lengthy and only Singapore-based boats bother to get it.
Keppel Bay is another new marina planned for the south shore of Singapore Island.
Danga Bay Marina is about to fully open on the Malaysian shore.
The SAF yacht club has 3 clubhouses, with berthing, at various locations around Singapore.
Anchorages
There is an attractive anchorage in Danga Bay where there is a small pontoon which can be used for dinghy landing and collecting water. In addition there are three yellow buoys for mooring by yachts. Although is is not clear how much has changed since the marina has been built here. Close by are shops, restaurant, a reasonable supermarket, internet access and a laundry.
