  Constanta : Profile

Clearance

If wishing to clear in at Constanta one should make for the small boat harbour, Port Tomis, about half a mile north of the main commercial harbour. Call on VHF Channel 16 on approach. The small harbour is under permanent military guard, and it is best to tie up alongside the quay, close to the sentry box. The boat will be visited by customs and immigration, after which the captain may be required to go into the main harbour and clear with the Port Authority. The ship's papers will be kept until departure.

The authorities should be notified at least one hour before departure so they can come to the yacht.

Docking

Facilities at Tomis have recently been improved, with water and electricity available on the quay. There is also a new marina about 8nm south of Port Tomis, at Eforie Nord.

The boat can be left safely at Tomis, if this is arranged with the port captain, by those who wish to visit some of Romania's interior, such as the unique painted churches and monasteries in northern Moldavia.
