Tanapag Harbour (Saipan) : Profile
The approaches to the harbour are well marked. Visiting boats may anchor in the commercial harbour or come alongside the pier by the Mobil Tanks. The port captain will give directions where to moor when contacted on VHF Channel 16. Clearance is done by quarantine, customs and immigration officials.
Outer Cove Marina, located on the east of the island in Tanapag harbour, almost due west of Monagaha Island, is a new marina with fixed concrete docks. Fuel, ice and supplies from a mobile store are available.
Smiling Cove Marina, located north of the American Memorial Park in Garapan, has a small dock dedicated to yachts in transit. The first 3 days are free and then it is $4/day up to a maximum of 30 days, after which a vessel must move on. It has toilets (but no showers),water, and electricity. Rats can be a problem and they will chew through screens. There are security cameras and a guard at night. The marina is reasonably well protected, but is not safe in a typhoon. The high tide depth in the basin is 10 to 14 feet.
The inner harbour does provide good shelter, but it is on a first come, first served basis and it gets very crowded.
