  Puerto Sandino (also called Samoza) : Profile

Location

This port is a useful stop over on the Pacific coast. It was, at one time, Nicaragua's principal port on this coast.

Clearance

There is a Port Captain, Immigration and Customs services available here. The officials are friendly, helpful and keen to promote their harbour.

Call VHF channel 16 for assistance and advice on entering the port.

Docking

The entrance is buoyed by is closely bounded by shoals, so should be approached with care. We have been informed that the entrance channel is due to be dredged very soon (October 2008). Currently the minimum depth is 5m.

The anchorage inside offers good shelter. There is a dock for loading/unloading.
