 Opua (Bay of Islands) - Shore Services

Communications

The post office is near Opua Wharf, in the General Store; open 0900-1700 Monday to Friday.
There are card-operated public telephones in the marina.
Internet access at the Opua General Store.
Mail can be addressed to:- Name, Vessel Name, Opua Post Centre, Opua 0290, Bay of Islands, Northland, New Zealand.
Opua Marina also accepts mail for arriving yachts (see docking for details).

All times are NZST or daylight saving time as appropriate.

Russell Radio is a voluntary station run by the Bay of Islands Marine Radio Association. Members and non-members alike are always welcome. Their service is free of charge and includes: weather forecasts; E-mails on callers behalf if requested and messages passed to family and friends; plus assistance with clearance. Donations are always welcome, but no boat is ever denied a positive reply.

Opua Offshore Communications (Des Renner)
A commercial enterprise providing yachts with services such as position reporting, individual weather forecasts, passing messages and advice. To use this service, yachts should e-mail with all their details. A charge of $50NZD is payable for a period of 1 year.

A voluntarily operated radio station (sailing season only)

Major banks and 24 hour ATM in Paihia - 6K from Opua.
Opua Marina will provided cash-out for arriving yachts.

Provisions

The Opua General Store has fresh-baked bread and other essential (cold beer) provisions. Also internet and email access.

Paihia is a 10 minute drive from the marina. Paihia supermarket (Countdown) opening hours 7am to 10pm. There are also many banks with ATM available 24/7, hardware store, restaurants, post office, pharmacy, gift shops and farmer market on Thursday afternoons.

Transport & Travel

The Northliner Bus Service runs daily connections to Auckland, Whangarei and the airport. Tickets and times are available via the Opua Marina Office.

Bay of Islands Airport is located six kilometres south west of Kerikeri on Wiroa Road which starts at the roundabout on State Highway 10. Coming from the south, turn left at the roundabout and the entrance to the airport is two kilometres on the right.
