  Tangier : Profile

Clearance

It is possible to come alongside the dock inside the small boat harbour, which is crowded with fishing boats. Fly the Q flag and if the boat is not visited by Customs and Immigration immediately on arrival, be patient! They prefer to come to you, rather than you wander around looking for their offices. The Immigration police will exchange passports for shore passes, so allow time to retrieve them when leaving.

Docking

For the new visitor to Morocco, Tangier can be a bit of a shock. Children beg for money, ‘Official’ guides pester everywhere, the beach is filthy and the city is unsafe at night. In these respects, Tangier is untypical of other places in Morocco, but even so, it is an interesting and lively place to visit.

Docking facilities for visitors are better than in the past, but two new marinas further east, at Marina Smir and Kabila, both near Tetouan, are a much better alternative to leave the boat if wishing to visit the interior of the country.

There are pontoons at the west end of the fishing harbour, but at low tide it can be difficult getting ashore.

There are no repair facilities here.
