Situated between Rua Hospital Velho and Rua Latino Coelho, the fresh produce and fish market has an excellent selection of fish, fruit, vegetables, eggs and meats. The market opens at 0700 and closes at the following times, Monday 1400, Tuesday to Thursday 1800, Friday 2000, Saturday 1300. Closed on Sundays.
The nearest supermarket to the marina is on the lower street level of the Marina Shopping Centre. Small, but well stocked, it sells fresh meat, vegetables, cheese and cold meats as well as canned and dried goods. The shopping centre also houses banks, cafes and a host of small shops such as photodeveloping, dry-cleaners, stationery and cosmetics.
Casa Minas Gereas, 4 Avenida do Infante, open 0900-2100 Monday to Saturday, supermarket with free delivery to the marina. There are larger supermarkets in the centre of Funchal, such as Super SA (open 0800-2200) on Rua do Carmo. For large quantities and cheapest prices there is a large hypermarket Lido Sol,a few kilometres out of town to the west at the Lido (Rua Gorgulho).
The national Portuguese airline TAP have many flights a day to and from Lisbon,where international connections can be made. There are direct flights to Paris, Madrid, Geneva, Zurich, Frankfurt and London once or twice a week.
Town buses mainly leave from the Avenida do Mar behind the marina, but it is necessary to go to the Rodoeste or S.A.M terminals for buses leaving for elsewhere on the island.

One of the major activities on Madeira is walking in the mountains, using the paths alongside the many miles of stone water channels (levados). These channels, some dating from Roman times, are used to channel water from the wet mountainous areas, down to the dry, lower slopes on the Island.
A ride down the cobbled streets of Funchal in a sled is also an un-missable experience!
You do have to be a keen gardener to appreciate the flora of this island. Particularly that of the Botanical Gardens, 3 km from Funchal. Open daily from 0900 to 1800. It also has a collection of exotic birds in its
parrot park (Loiro Parque). There are several other tropical and sub-tropical gardens open to the public.
And not to be forgotten, are the wine lodges, where the famous Madeira wine can be tasted.
