  Maddalena Archipelago : Profile

Clearance

This area is a National Nautical Nature Reserve. There are restrictions on landing, anchoring, fishing, diving etc. Some yachts have been heavily fined for breaking the rules. Pink Beach on Isola Budelli is entirely off limits. A permit is required to visit the area and Park Rangers do visit to check them. The local Tourist Office has maps/charts of the restricted area.

Docking

Winds and sea states vary emormously around these islands. The heights of the land causing wind funnels, as well as wind shadows.

The area abounds in anchorages, so shelter can be found in most conditions. Within the National Park area there is now a charge for anchoring.

Cala Corsara (Isola Spargi)
An anchorage with good holding and space for 3 or 4 boats.

Cala Spalmatore (Isola Maddalena)
A good sheltered anchorage in all but NE winds, when a heavy swell rolls in. Buses to Maddalena town.

Cala Stagnali (Isola Caprera)
A good, uncrowded anchorage. Nature Reserve headquarters. A good chart is required as leading lines essential.

La Maddalena (Cala Gavetta)
La Maddalena, Sardinia
Located at 41°12'N 9°24'E. A small port on the main island. Water on the quay, also fuel. A ferry runs to the mainland.

Port of Palau
