  Fiumicino (Rome) : Profile

Location

This is the most convenient stop if wishing the visit Rome. It lies some 20 miles to the west of the centre of the city.

Docking

There are many small marinas in the Fiumicino River as well as the very large, Porto di Roma, just south of the river entrance.

Just 2 miles north of the river is the canal, which offers lower priced berthing (with buses to Rome). It is very close to Rome's very busy airport. There are two bridges - a lift (bascule) footbridge and a vertical-lift road bridge. The bridge opening times change annually, however Constellation Nautica's website has up-to-date times. Note that the bridge does not open at all on Tuesdays and Thursdays!

There is a small marina on the South side of the Canal (Darsena Traiano), just before the bridges. As it appears very full, a prior reservation would be advisable.

The Cantiere Nautico Albula is on the north side of the canal beyond both bridges and has been recommended by other Noonsite readers. Contact Max who is very helpful and friendly and speaks good English as do many of the staff. Another recommendation by cruisers is Constellation Nautica nearby.

The areas for docking on the canal are not so pleasant as those in the river, and walking around at night alone would definitely feel uncomfortable.

Signs and directions for the many boat related businesses is very poor and it is very hard to find anything amongst the great number of places available.

Located on the left side of the river beyond the lifting road bridge (the 2nd bridge, the 1st is a pedestrian bridge), just after the river bends right toward the SE.
The office is a gray barge permanently moored at the far end. Power and non-potable water is included. June 2011, berthing charges were 20 Euros a night for a 10.5m catamaran. No showers/toilets, laundry, WiFi or fuel.

Rec. by cruisers as very cheap, mooring fees include water, electricity and WiFi. Nice shower and right next door to bus stop for Rome. Friendly club atmosphere and very sheltered. Renzo speaks English. Excellent chandlery in town and good supermarkets. Website has good instructions on how to get there and up to date bridge opening times.

Fiumare Grande
Aka Fiumara Grande
In strong onshore winds and with the ebb running in the river, steep breaking seas can exist from the 10m contour until well into the river. There are many moorings here, in the river and in the yards along each side. Circolo Cantiere Navale Tecnomar have proved to be very helpful. There are regular buses to Ostia Antica and Fiumicino.
