Description:
Maumere is the main entry point for the island of Flores, which lies to the east of Sumbawa. In contrast to Labuan Bajo, there are still few tourists in Maumere which has been described as a mix of dusty, busy town and coastal paradise.
Maumere is the largest town in Flores and lies towards the eastern end of the north coast. This island is one of the few places where the Komodo dragon can be found in the wild.

08°37′S, 121°08′E.
In 1992 an earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale killed 2,500 people in and around Maumere. In 2013 a volcanic eruption on Palue, 40nm NW of Maumere killed six people.
